Greater Peace Of Mind At Night
My son was diagnosed with T1D when he was 2 years old. I cannot believe that 8 years has passed and how much we have grown. As a T1D parent, you learn to deal with the many surprises that come with managing your child’s glucose levels. But the one thing that remains constant is the fear of him going into a low and not being able to help him.
Due to medical insurance constraints, our son did not have access to sensor technology for the first two years. I recall waking up at night, being concerned about his BG level - whether high or low, and then going to check; sometimes numerous times during the night. Like most other parents we checked his glucose before we went to bed and set the alarm for 02:00 and 04:00 every night.
We eventually started sensor technology. Moving from 6 to 8 fingerpick readings a day to the sensor taking an average of about 288 readings was incredible - less testing, more readings and greater peace of mind!
After a couple of years on the Veo pump, we decided to switch to the Minimed 640G. This pump had an even more profound impact on our peace of mind. Knowing that the pump was more interactive in glucose monitoring. It alarms and suspends insulin, 30 minutes prior to a low glucose level, and when his glucose level returns to normal, it independently restarts, giving insulin.
Following consultations with our Endocrinologist, the pump has been even more fine tuned to our sons glucose levels which gives us a greater sense of security.
